Suki the Horse Recovers from Sever Burns Sustained in Barn Fire
|
I came across this heart warming story and just had to share it. Suki the Oldenburg suffered severe burns in 2009 all over her face and back in a horrific barn fire. When many owners would have put the mare to sleep, Frances Wade-Whittaker was persuaded by her horse's fiesty spirit to give her a fighting chance at survival.
Over $30,000 in veterinary care and two years later Suki has made remarkable strides. While her competition days are behind, Suki has found a new purpose as an animal therapist.
Because Suki has experienced the same pain, dis-figuration and struggles that human burn victims have endured, it was only natural for Suki to work with burn victims as an animal therapist. Child and Adult burn victims alike can relate to her and find strength in her recovery. There's a common bond. To know that this horse has been through the same thing and come through the other side, I imagine, gives them hope.
